ABOUT EDGARD & COOPER
-
Are you a new company?
Our founders couldn’t find a dog food in Europe good enough for their dogs – Edgard and Cooper – so they invented their own! We launched in Belgium in 2016 with the mission to make people, pets, and the planet feel good. We’re now loved by over 1 million pets across Europe, and as of this summer we’ve launched in the United States, too!
-
What is your story?
Our recipes are really something special. We exclusively use 100% fresh meat and fresh fish, including the finest cuts originally intended for human consumption (deboned meat), all of which are temperature controlled from production to delivery. This ensures optimal quality and freshness as we transform them into kibble within 48 hours.
Fresh meat is not only natural, but it’s also much easier to digest and way tastier! This makes a big difference in how your pet feels and enjoys mealtime.
What also sets us apart is that we’re fully transparent about our ingredients. No hidden surprises, no vague terms like “animal by-products” – you know exactly what’s in your pet's bowl. Plus, our food contains no artificial preservatives, colors, flavors, sugar, or fillers. Just honest, fresh, and natural goodness. -
Why did Edgard & Cooper sell to General Mills?
It’s no secret that we want to deliver healthy and nutritious food to as many pets as possible, and up until now we have grown within the European pet food market, but we don’t want to stop there. Our dream is to become a leading global pet food player, and we believe that General Mills can help us achieve this dream.
General Mills is a leading consumer packaged goods company whose purpose is making food the world loves. They’re known for their iconic brands and for putting people, pets, and the planet at the heart of their business. Their values and mission match ours, so this resulted in a beautiful partnership, where together we will strive to deliver our nutritious food to as many pets as possible! -
What will change? What is the impact for me and my pet as consumers?
Just to be clear and straightforward about this, absolutely nothing will change for you and your beloved pet(s). We will continue to offer the same nutritious products that you and your pet love so much.
Our three amazing founders will stay on board; their commitment remains steadfast. They believe in the vision, passion, and expertise that have driven our success from day one. The same goes for all the other employees that have helped shape Edgard & Cooper into the brand we are today. -
Will you continue to be committed to sustainability and ethical sourcing?
100%. General Mills understands the significance of sustainability and ethical sourcing. As we become part of General Mills, we are fully committed to upholding and furthering Edgard & Cooper's existing commitments and science-based targets.
As one of the pillars of General Mills’ strategy, they are committed to standing for good and making a meaningful impact on people, pets, and the planet.
We are excited about the opportunity to collectively share, learn, and enhance our sustainability practices in the years to come. Our shared expertise will enable us to enhance Edgard & Cooper's sustainability initiatives and make meaningful contributions to environmental and social responsibility. -
What stores sell Edgard & Cooper products?
Edgard & Cooper is available at PetSmart (in stores and online) and directly on our website, us.edgardcooper.com.
-
Is your packaging recyclable?
Our dry packaging is made with a minimum of 85% paper, and we’re working on moving to fully recyclable packaging beyond our launch. We’ll be 100% recyclable or reusable by 2030.
Our wet food comes in recyclable metal trays. Just feed to your pup, rinse, and recycle. Check your local regulations, as accepted materials vary by community.
The recyclability of our treats varies by item.

Does the Edgard & Cooper Foundation donate to local animal shelters?
Currently the Edgard & Cooper foundation does not donate food to local shelters. Here’s why: The Foundation operates independently and receives 1% of annual sales from Edgard & Cooper. Since the Foundation doesn’t receive products, it can’t commit to food donations. The Foundation’s donations are focused on projects that look to achieve long-term, sustainable change, as opposed to short-term goals or one-off food donations.

Do you offer samples?
We don't offer samples since switching to new food requires a transition period, but we're happy to hear you’d like your dog to try our products! We'd love for you to join the Edgard & Cooper Family, and we understand that some pets have picky tastes.
Small, sample-sized portions of kibble or wet food do not allow for a proper transition period, especially when switching from a different pet food. Pets should always be gradually introduced to a new brand or type of pet food if you want a true indication of whether your pet finds it palatable and digests it well. -
What is your satisfaction guarantee?
We want you and your pet to love Edgard & Cooper! Our return policy is simple. If you're not satisfied with the product you receive, please let us know within 30 days of purchase, and we will issue a refund for the unused and unopened product.
-
Do you offer coupons?
We focus on providing excellent value through our high-quality ingredients and recipes. While we don't offer coupons directly, our retail partners often have their own promotions. We recommend checking with your local retailers and their websites for potential savings — be sure to visit our website for special offers for first-time customers.
NUTRITION, SAFETY AND QUALITY
-
Why is fresh meat important? How is it different than meat meal?
We use fresh & raw meat in our kibble. This meat is handled just the way you'd expect – carefully kept cold until it's made into delicious food for your pup. That means it's only cooked once. So why do we use fresh meat? Because we want to offer that choice to pet parents who are looking for something different.
-
Are your products grain-free?
All our dry and wet food recipes are grain-free. Most of our treats are too, except for our 3 plant-based options (Apple Bar, Apple Biscuits, and Peanut Butter Biscuits), which use wholesome grains and no meat.
Why? One of our founders’ dogs couldn’t eat grains, but there weren’t grain-free options available in the European market. We made Edgard & Cooper to ensure there’s something available for dogs who can’t have grain-containing food. -
Why do you use pea protein in your recipes?
At Edgard & Cooper, we believe in the power of fresh meat. That's why it’s used across our recipes – excluding our plant-based treats, of course! We then supplement this meat with pea protein in our kibble. This allows us to boost the overall protein content without needing to use meat meal.
Why pea protein? It's all about providing a complete and balanced diet while staying true to our values. Fresh meat offers a less-processed ingredient and a taste that dogs love. Pea protein complements this as an additional source of protein with a lower environmental impact than meat meal. It requires less water and land to produce, and is aligned with our commitment to responsible sourcing and helps us minimize our carbon footprint. So, with Edgard & Cooper, you're getting the best of both worlds: delicious, nutritious food that's also kinder to the planet. -
Do you have cat food, too?
Not at this time. Our focus is on a full portfolio of delicious, high-quality food and treats for dogs. We’ll share updates on our website if that changes.
-
Where are Edgard and Cooper products made?
Our dry food is made in the United States, wet food is made in Denmark, and treats are made in Germany.
-
Does Edgard & Cooper offer a chicken-free formula?
We have recipes across our portfolio for dogs on chicken-free diets. Our salmon, lamb, and duck/venison recipes are all made without chicken. So is our beef/duck wet food, and our Apple Bars, Apple Biscuits, and Peanut Butter Biscuits.
-
Are your foods complete & balanced?
Yes, our full portfolio of kibble and wet food for dogs is complete and balanced.
-
My dog is a picky eater. Will they like it?
Our food is made for fussy dogs. Our founders started Edgard & Cooper because their dogs (Edgard & Cooper) couldn’t or wouldn’t eat the food available to them. So, we launched a food that was nutritious and delicious, and they love it. We think your pup will, too.
It’s packed with delicious fresh meat, so it tastes incredible and is suitable for even the pickiest doggies. Our wet food is great for picky eaters and has a high moisture content for added hydration. Plus, they’re all complete and balanced.
ABOUT OUR DRY FOOD
-
Do I need to transition from my pet’s current food?
It’s always a good idea to introduce new foods slowly. Gradually increase the amount of Edgard & Cooper food over 7 days while reducing the amount of your previous food. Check out the feeding instructions on the packaging for more info.
-
How long is an opened bag good for?
An opened bag of dry food can be kept for 3 months, preferably in the original packaging. Our bags have been specially developed to keep the kibble fresh for longer, without compromising on nutritional value. You can easily roll up our paper bags or secure them with a clip. This also applies to our treats.
-
Can you freeze the dry food?
We don't recommend freezing our kibble. Freezing and thawing can cause moisture to accumulate, which can negatively affect the kibble's quality and texture.
-
Can I switch recipes without a gradual transition?
If your pet has no specific intolerances, allergies, or digestion sensitivities, you may switch flavors within our product line without a gradual transition. If your pet does have a sensitive stomach, we recommend transitioning slowly. You know your furry friend best!
ABOUT OUR WET FOOD
-
Once open, how long are they good for?
Opened trays should be refrigerated and consumed within 2-3 days to maintain flavor and freshness. Wet food should always be stored in an airtight container.
-
Can you freeze it?
You certainly can! There is no problem with freezing Edgard & Cooper wet food for dogs.
-
What is the texture of your wet food?
All our wet food will feature a creamy, soft paté texture.
